Company follows the story of a man named Robert on the night of his 35th birthday in New York city in the 1970s. I lit this musical with a clear palette and dynamic lighting moments to support Robert throughout his desires to feel connected. The lighting for Company was set in three main lighting worlds. The first world revolved around Robert and how he portrays his thoughts to the audience.  This world is lit with cool colors and minimal texture to support his being alone. The second world related to the various apartments of his friends, lit with a particular warmth and vitality to express the energy that Robert's friends bring to the stage. The final lighting world began in Act Two after his song “Marry Me a Little” which was a breakthrough in his character to find himself, was full of saturate color and texture to express his growth and understanding of what it truly means to be alive.
