Beneath the Veil drew on inspiration from Claude Monet’s Water Lily series. The dancers acted as the lotus flowers that start in the mud beneath the water and eventually broke through and were cleansed in their blooming. I had a great deal of fun looking at Monet's paintings for inspiration and worked to layer colors onto the dancers in a painterly way. As the dance progressed I stripped away certain brushstrokes to end the piece with a new refreshed clarity.
